«This is Harry. Who cares?"

Harry is a Sansevieria laurentii houseplant also called mother-in-law or bow hemp.

Pot diameter: 18cm

Height: approx. 60cm

How to care for Harry, the Sansevieria laurentii plant:

  • The plant we know as mother-in-law's tongue is known to tolerate dry heat - perfect for our central heating systems at home.
  • It thrives best in a bright location, but doesn't necessarily want to be in the bright sun.
  • It is advisable to let the soil dry thoroughly before watering again and to give the mother-in-law's tongue very little water - better too little than too much!
  • This plant also has the ability to clean air from pollutants and dust particles.

Where does bow hemp grow?

Most of the 67 species of bow hemp grow in the warm, dry climate of tropical Africa. A few species also grow in the tropical parts of Asia.

The properties of bow hemp as a medicinal plant:

The Sansevieria is an effective air purifier that cleans the air of formaldehyde, benzene, trichlorethylene, xylene and nicotine.

What does bow hemp do according to Feng Shui?

  • Vitality is improved because emotional and ideal goals are consistently addressed
  • Fears are reduced by promoting defensiveness
  • awakens the fighting spirit
  • potentiates positive and negative emotions
  • very good for the indoor climate

How often does bow hemp need water?

The bow hemp can be watered every 2 weeks with approx. 5 cl of water.

Where does bow hemp feel most at home?

If you want a darker plant, you should place it further away from the window and if you are concerned about brightness, a window spot is the best option. The leaves of these plants are strong and tapered with elongated tongue shapes that seem to poke out of the earth. Impressive, isn't it?

Most of the time they do not grow higher than one meter. These plants put all their energy into growing and therefore even the pot can break if it is not big enough. Flowers form relatively rarely on this type of plant, but when they do, your patience will reward you with the most wonderful scent.
